About Us

If Father Time could "turn back the clock" and take you back to the 1970s, you might take a stroll through New London, Connecticut. There, around fifteen Chinese families were in the process of establishing a Chinese school. The New London Public Library served as the school’s first location, and a dozen or so children became its first students.

More than thirty years later, if you walk into Waterford High School, located on the southeastern coast of Connecticut, to revisit this Chinese school, you will be greeted by more than forty teachers and over three hundred students from Chinese and other ethnic backgrounds. The Southeastern Connecticut Chinese School has now been officially registered as a non-profit institution. The school follows a modern management system where the administration team and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) jointly deliberate on school affairs, the board of directors provides oversight, and the principal is responsible for execution.

With the ongoing support and care of parents, friends, and people from all walks of life, the Southeastern Connecticut Chinese School has consistently upheld the principle of "innovation in thinking, diligence in action." It has developed into a comprehensive community school with clearly defined educational goals, a progressive educational philosophy, well-established rules and regulations, and a wide-ranging curriculum. Its primary mission is to teach the Chinese language, preserve Chinese culture, and cultivate bilingual talent, while also helping students lay a solid foundation in the humanities and sciences to meet the technological challenges and global competition of tomorrow.
